Comments:
This yard was built at the rear of Birtwhistle property in the High St.The Birtwhistles were drovers and cattle-dealers.The most famous was John Birtwhistle who as early as the 1840's travelelled as far north as the Hebrides to bring cattle to the English market. My mother Elsie was born at no.12, 5.12.1910,the fourth of nine children of William and Emily Schofield.
